Charlotte Lee, of the USA, has earned a place in the
Guinness Book of World Records for the World’s Largest Rubber Duck
Collection. In 2003 her collection weighed in with 1,439 unique
rubber ducks, and that number has been growing steadily since. A
recent estimate puts the count at well over 2100 unique rubber ducks.
Charlotte has been collecting rubber ducks since
1996. She reports that her collection is growing more slowly these days
and cites her selectiveness as a major factor. No doubt the availability
of unique ducks also plays a part, though new and interesting rubber ducks
are put on the market all the time. Time limitations, too, seem to have
an effect. Charlotte states that she not only photographs each duck and
files the photos in a database, but she also displays every single duck.
Not to mention the time spent on needed duck washing and upkeep.
Charlotte and her ducks will appear in the 2007
edition of the book, which will be released in the fall of 2006.
We all know the Queen of England has style, but here’s the proof: Her
Royal Highness has her very own rubber duckie. Apparently, a workman
redecorating the Queen’s bathroom walls spotted the monarchial mallard.
Said he, "I nearly fell off my ladder when I saw it - but at least it
shows the Queen has a good sense of humour", adding that the duck was
sporting an inflatable crown.
