Rubber Duckie Authority Jodie Davis Predicts Bobbleheads’ Downfall.

August 3, 2004

Jodie Davis, author of  the definitive book “Rubber Duckies” believes the classic bath-time bauble will be overtaking Bobbleheads in the toy spotlight.  Citing one ESPN poll where rubber duckies beat out Bobbleheads as the preferred stadium giveaway, Davis notes that, like the noggin-nodding novelties, rubber duckies can be made into celebrity lookalikes.  And let’s face it, we here at RubaDuck think rubber duckies are just way more fun than a head on a spring.

Colossal Rubber Duck Flambé'

July 2004

Vandals in Silverdale, WA set fire to a 25-foot rubber duckie promoting the 11th annual Great Kitsap Duck Race.  Firefighters from Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue responded the emergency call and quickly doused the blaze. Damage was limited to burnt grass and "one melted duck," said spokeswoman Lindsy Ingram.  Race chairman Steve Slaton said the duck would cost about $7,600 to replace.  It’s not all fun and games – sometimes being a rubber duckie is hard work fraught with risk!

Little Rubber Ducks Make Big Splash

January 2005

Popular children’s author Eric Carle’s latest book is getting great reviews from critics as well as parents and kids.  Inspired by a 2003 news story about the 1992 container ship spill that released thousands of bright yellow rubber duckies into the ocean, the author has fashioned a delightful counting book.  10 rubber ducks, fresh from the factory, fall into the sea.  They are disbursed in all directions, each meeting up with a different animal.  The tenth duck encounters a mother duck and her ducklings and floats along home with them.  All the ducks say good night with a “quack” and the newcomer chimes in with a “squeak” which children can create by pressing the page of the book.   As we here at RubaDuck know, rubber duckies are magically inspirational to all kinds of folks.
