Small-scale
Oceanographic Study Conducted in New Zealand
29 July 2007
Following in the footsteps of Dr. Curtis Ebbesmeyer, students and teachers at the
Small Kauri Early Childhood Education Center in Mangere Bridge, New Zealand are using drifting rubber ducks to learn about the sea and the action of the
tides in Manakau Harbour. Eleven intrepid rubber ducks, sporting the words “If you find this duck please phone” with the phone number and name of the
school, were launched near the school in late January of this year. To date, three ducks have been recovered; one trapped locally within the harbour,
one on the Awhitu peninsula and one 15 km (9.3 mi) North of Muriwai Beach. Included with the press release sent to RubaDuck was a photo of Stig the dog
posing with his new duck friend at Awihtu. Anyone who finds a rubber duck from the Small Kauri school is encouraged to contact them as soon as possible.
The staff at RubaDuck also welcomes any reports or updates on the status of this exciting project.
Duckfest 2006 a success!
September 23, 2006
Duckfest 2006 occurred in
Rantoul, Illinois on September 23. Rubber duck enthusiasts from all over
the country flocked to this event, but sadly RubaDuck representatives
were unable to attend. Festivities this year included duck trading,
duck-feet races, and games in a beautiful blue pool full of rubber
ducks. For more information about this spec-duck-ular event, please
visit Duckplanet.
Duckfest 2007 is slated for late June in Santa Monica, CA. RubaDuck
correspondents aspire to attend next year’s gala.
